"LEMON TREE" 6" X 6" Oil on panel

The Daily Paintworks Challenge this week was to paint something you see out your window. I thought a branch of the lemon tree would be appropriate. I had to decide what colors to use in the "darks" of the lemon, and being one who never shies from color felt browns and oranges would work. Thus, we have a "lemorange."

  1. I really like the composition and colors on this, but didn't you post a slightly lighter version of this on the Paintworks Challenge first? I think I liked the lighter version better. It seemed to have more of that "glow" that you got in your plum and apple paintings.
I just love those two paintings. Of course, your color combinations are just gorgeous on everything that you do.

  2. Hi Melanie,
You are exactly right! Good memory! I did redo it as I didn't feel the leaves on the original looked like citrus leaves. After that change I did deepen some of the values in the lemon as well. Sometimes we need to listen to that little voice that says, "Stop!"
