"BASKET CASE" 12" X 9" Oil on panel SOLD

It seems recently I'm on a dove binge. We have so many Mourning Doves in this area that it's hard to go anywhere without photo ops available. My husband is the photographer in the family so I have a handy resource for material. I had fun with the basket. I hadn't done "interwoven" before, and I really enjoyed it. However, a little of that goes a long way.

  2. Carol, this is EXQUISITE! I thought the other dove was wonderful, but this one takes the viewer a step further..You have such a talent...the intricate planning, the color, the detail and the realism...the dove looks like he can fly off the page..and your woven basket looks like a person could just pick it up and carry it off...You have outdone even you this time.

  4. Many thanks, Ellie! Have enjoyed trying to emphasize the contrast between shadow and light. To me, that's so important to the look of the painting and an enjoyable challenge.

  5. Mourning doves are so sweet and beautiful. This one is looking right at me with those beautiful eyes.

White-wing doves are driving our mourning doves out of their habitats here. I hate that, because the white-wings are big and messy and make me think of pigeons.

  6. I am really starting to enjoy your birds. They are so sweet and gentle looking but with lots of presence too. That basket looks like a LOT of work!:) Great results as always.

  8. Virginia, we have the same problem. The white-wings are much more aggressive and "bully-ish." They hit the Mourning Doves with their wings and can really deliver a blow. They DO remind me also of pigeons!
    Thank you for writing.

  14. Hi Lorraine. Your comment is interesting as I had seldom thought of "mood" when I was painting it. YET, that is an important goal for a painter, isn't it? I will certainly tune into it more in the future.
    Thank you!

  15. thank you, Angela. It was interesting to try to match all the colors that were in the basket. doesn't painting encourage you to SEE things you might not have noticed before?
