"Garden Monarch" 8" X 8" Pastel

This rose was in its full glory when my husband walked by the front yard of a home in Pacific Grove, CA. It's always refreshing for us to visit places where flowers flourish in a gentler climate. Occasional rains, lots of fog and frequent sunshine encourage large blooms and breathtaking varieties.

"Night Bloomer" 8" X 8" Oil on panel SOLD

We have a particular cactus that grows in this area and  is quite unique. It's called a "Night Blooming Cereus." Twice a year or more they put forth the most incredible flowers which are an intense color, usually yellow, orange, red and fuschia. White is also possible. These flowers are almost neon-bright and I kid you not! The special thing about them is their "bulbs" build and prepare for their big show. They usually bloom at night initially, and they last for one day. Then they dry up and are gone. It's almost a spiritual thing that these magnificent blossoms are so spectacular, yet so short-lived.
