"WITNESS" 5" X 7" Pastel

These wonderful old Cypress trees are such majestic sentries. They grow right on the coast where the moisture is greater than it is even one mile inland. There's a grove of them here locally with trees over three hundred years old. It would be wonderful if they could talk and share all they have seen!

We shot some scenic shots yesterday of the ocean south towards Point Lobos.

  2. Jean, you would be painting 24/7. So many amazing scenes, and the colors are so vivid this time of year.

  4. Great job on this old gnarled tree. I agree with Jean about the colors in the painting. Love your use of warm colors in there.

I was looking again at your pictures from yesterday and I realized the deer in that photo have fat rumps! Guess they are getting plenty to eat. Our deer are just surviving, due to our severe drought this summer.

  5. That is an exceptionally clear shot of the bay/Point Lobos area. I sure love that area of CA and your cypress trees really reminded me of that. They really are majestic aren't they?

  6. Yes, I agree! I love the gnarly, twisted limbs and trunks and how the wind can shape them so they really lean over. They ARE majestic, Libby!

  7. Thank you, Virginia. The deer in this area have plenty to eat. There's so much vegetation, I suppose because of the dampness in the air (fog, etc.)In fact, they can "de-bud" all flowering plants rather quickly.

  8. Carol, I'm with you - I have more photos of trees than anything else, I think. I truly admire artists that can paint trees well; something I am working towards. Thanks for writing!

  13. These Cypress truly are "ballet-esque" in their shapes. No two alike. Thanks, Lorraine.
