The Cactus Wren is one of my favorite local birds. They stay here year round and are very industrious and not as timid as some of our birds. They make many different sounds, and in the summertime we often wake up to their "voices." They like to nest in Yucca plants or cactus and their nests can be quite elaborate and labor-intensive. Here are a couple of photos my husband took around the neighborhood.
Darling bird--nicely done. I don't see wrens here often but we had one nest in a house last year. Noisy birds!
ReplyDeleteYou are right about the noise. They seem to chatter a lot of the time, but they make such a variety of sounds that I find myself liking it. They're fun to watch especially if there are two or more. Thanks for your comments, Stephanie!
ReplyDeleteSuch a sweet little bird. We had them at our former home and they come around here depending on the season. They are so tiny and fragile looking. You captured that quality and the background really serves to highlight that litle guy:)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Libby. We have enjoyed them. This area is actually on the flyway for a lot of migrating birds. Seasonally, we have many varieties. I can see how some people really get hooked on bird watching.

ReplyDeleteWrens are my favorite birds. We don't have cactus wrens here in Tennessee but the wrens we have are brave, spunky tiny birds with a clear bold voice. I love your little painting. The beautiful yellow peppers in the prior post are also wonderfully done. Such close values in such a touchy color as yellow are not an easy thing to paint.

Hi Carol, Your little cactus wren just stepped into my heart! The pose and colors are wonderful and he is the "Star."
