"GALA GET-TOGETHER" 5" X 7" Pastel on Pastelbord

My grandsons came to visit this weekend, and I had purchased these Gala apples for snacks. I had a couple left over, and what's a painter to do with extra apples? Uh-huh...paint them!  I used a Pastelbord panel - one of my favorite surfaces.

  2. CAROL, LOVE the delicate grey blue back ground with the lucious light yellow yellow greens etc of the apple slices, blue is tough to get right with food, at least for me, and this is lovely. Jean

  4. Hello Jean,
You're very thoughtful to make these comments. I have painted whole apples, but never just the slices. I found out that what I THOUGHT I saw in terms of color was not necessarily accurate - especially the yellows that were really green and the reds that were really orange. A fun exercise!

  6. Many thanks, Virginia, for your comments. I have to control my impulses at times - there are so many luscious colors in pastels, and sometimes I have a tendency to use more than is necessary. :)

  10. Thank you, Stephanie. I'm always amazed at how the act of painting forces the artist to look very closely at things. Seems like I "discover" details I always took for granted before painting.
